Student Profile

Yamin plans to take part of Loughborough’s sporting expertise back home to boost the future prospects of potential sporting stars back home in Brunei.

The 21-year-old Sports Science student, who is equally at ease both on the sports field and exploring the psychological side, was recommended to the town at a careers exhibition in his country and has not been disappointed.

“I had no doubt that the UK was the best place to study sport and I have enjoyed my two years doing HND Sport and Exercise Science at Loughborough College,” he says.

“It has been everything that I expected. The College has top lecturers and the facilities are great here.” Yamin has been playing football in midfield for the Brunei Society at Loughborough University and adds: “I love to be involved in the playing side but I am even more interested in the psychology of sport.

“This is definitely where we can help the sportsmen and women in Brunei. There is a lot of talent around but they don’t believe they are going to be successful. Here they are so full of confidence and know that anything is possible.

“I’d like to take what I have learned and go into management or coaching and then possibly work in the organisation of sport.”

Currently Yamin is waiting for confirmation that he will be taking his thirst for sporting knowledge to the next stage and convert his HND to a degree course in Sport and Exercise Science.
