RSL Level 2 Diploma inMusic Practitioners

This level 2 RockSchool course will equip you with a set of music industry skills at a higher level. You will study units taken from the four different pathways: performance, technology, business or composition. The music industry currently involves a range of diverse careers and this course will help in preparing you for these along with providing the skills needed to study Music at University or a higher education institution. Assessments include performance, written work and presentations. Our high-quality facilities will allow you to carry out your studies in a professional setting, giving you experience in using recording equipment, rehearsal spaces and industry-standard hardware and software.

Course Content

Core pathway units include:

  • Improving Instrumental Performance
  • Music Sequencing & Production
  • How the Music Industry Works
  • Organising a Music Event
  • Live Music Performance
  • Careers in Music

Assessment will be ongoing through assignments set throughout the year. You will be creating assignment evidence in written work, presentations etc. You will also be assessed in rehearsal and development, recording and performing. Your creative and investigative work throughout will be assessed.


All units and assessments are Work Related Learning and have a strong focus on employability and skills development. All Creative Arts students will complete 20 hours of work experience alongside their course. Students will have the opportunity to engage with professionals and industry throughout their studies.

Entry Requirements

Entry requirements are 4 GCSE’s or equivalent at Grade at 3/4 or above including English (and ideally Maths). Students may progress from Level 1 to Level 2 following successful completion of Level 1 and improvement in English and Maths.

Progression Opportunities

Students who successfully complete this course can progress on to the RSL Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Music (Business) that can then lead to studying for a university level qualification.
